The Manau (Salty Dog)

A crisp, coastal twist on the classic Salty Dog—Heart of Scotland Gin, fresh grapefruit, a touch of soda, and a salted rim (Blackthorn Salt of Ayr) for that sea-kissed finish. Refreshing, bright, and picnic-perfect.

Ingredients
  

  • 50 ml Heart of Scotland Gin Original or Navy Strength
  • 100 ml Fresh pink grapefruit juice or see alternative below
  • 15 ml Simple syrup optional, to taste
  • 100 ml Fever-Tree Soda Water use only if you’re using fresh juice
  • 1 tbsp Coarse sea salt rim; we like Blackthorn Salt of Ayr
  • 1 handfull Ice cubes 3–4 standard cubes
Alternative
  • 200 ml Fever-Tree Pink Grapefruit Soda omit soda water & simple syrup
🌿 Garnish
  • 1 Wheel Pink grapefruit wedge (or thin wheel) or slice

What You'll Need

  • 1 Highball glass (~350 ml)
  • 1 Jigger or measuring spoons
  • 1 Bar spoon
  • 1 Citrus wedge (to wet the rim)
  • 1 Saucer or small plate (for salt)

Method
 

  1. Salt the Rim:
    Run a grapefruit (or lemon) wedge around the glass rim. Dip into the coarse sea salt for a neat salted edge.
  2. Build:
    Add ice to the glass. Pour in the gin, fresh grapefruit juice, and simple syrup (if using).
  3. Top & Stir:
    Top with Fever-Tree Soda Water (about 100 ml). Stir gently to combine.
  4. Alternative Build (with Pink Grapefruit Soda):
    Add ice, gin, and 200 ml Fever-Tree Pink Grapefruit Soda. Stir gently. (No extra soda water or syrup needed.
